Piedmont Breezes Past Greensboro in Dominant Fashion

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team breezed past Greensboro on Saturday morning, winning in dominant fashion 21-0. 

It was all Lady Lions from the jump on a cold morning in Demorest. AVA TRANKINA, MACHAELA SMITH and MERRYN BUMPASS all scored within the first five minutes of the contest getting under way and Piedmont jumped out to a 6-0 lead just six minutes in.

The onslaught didn't stop there as the period closed out with a 9-0 score line in favor for the Lady Lions. Bumpass added a second in the period, joining her sister Rowan Bumpass (178) in the 100 point club.  

 
The second period was all CLARA WELCH as the three time USA South Freshman of the Week added three goals to the tally, giving herself a hat trick on the day. MACHAELA SMITH also added one goal in the period and Piedmont cruised into half time with a 13-0 lead.

Out of half time, the Lady Lions offense continued to dominate the contest. Piedmont spent almost the entirety of the half on offense as it had in the first and allowed 0 shot attempts in the game. The team also had seven different goal scorers in the second half who did not score in the first.

The final score line of the contest finished 21-0 in favor of the Lady Lions.

TURNING POINT:
-- Piedmont jumped out to an early 6-0 lead just six minutes into the game and never looked back.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- CLARA WELCH led the team in scoring with a hat trick.
-- Piedmont had 12 different goal scorers in the game.
-- MAGGI SPRATLIN had five assists in the contest.
-- MACHAELA SMITH, SIERRA JUDSON and MAGGI SPRATLIN all had three ground balls.
-- AVA TRANKINA forced six turnovers.
-- LINDLEY WARD had five draw controls.
