BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Piedmont baseball team dropped a road contest at top-ranked Birmingham-Southern Wednesday 13-1. The Lions were first on the board, but the Panthers were able to pour it on in the middle innings and take the contest.
In the top of the first,
COLE ELLIS singled to lead off followed by a
KOLTON HICKS hit by pitch to put two on with no outs.
CARTER BALLSTADT singled to drive in Ellis and give Piedmont a 1-0 lead and a promising start.
That was all the Lions would manage in the inning and for the game as the Panthers' pitching staff surrendered no hits following the first inning.
ZACH COURTWRIGHT earned the start for Piedmont going three innings before giving way to
ADAM METIVIER. Both Courtwright and Metivier allowed just one earned run in their outing.
Six total pitchers were used by Piedmont with
JUSTIN MANUS ending the night with a solid 1.1 innings of clean work with just one walk and no hits.
Up next, the Lions will take on Emory over the weekend in a split series scheduled to begin at Piedmont Friday at 6 p.m.

--The Panthers were able to score multiple runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to take control of the game.

CARTER BALLSTADT posted the lone RBI of the game for Piedmont as the Lions had just two hits in the game, both coming in the first inning.
