DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team finished off a 24-3 season-opening win as the skies opened up on Thursday night at the Walker Athletic Complex.
The Lions dominated from start-to-finish with a run of seven consecutive goals in the first quarter to grab control early in the contest.
Sophomore
JADON MORINI scored three of his career-high tying four goals in the opening quarter as the Lions spread the wealth with 13 different players finding the back of the net on Thursday night. Freshman
ISAAC HARRINGTON tied Morini for the team lead, with four goals himself while also adding a pair of assists. Fellow newcomer
WILL ISLEY paced the squad with three assists in his first game for the Lions.
The Stormy Petrels took the opening faceoff and scored 31 seconds into the contest to take an early lead. However, that lead was very short lived, as the Lions answered back just over a minute later on Morini's first of the night. Morini's goal sparked a run of seven straight for the Lions, who took a 7-1 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw Piedmont extend its lead even more as senior
MICHAEL ANDERSON scored twice to help the Lions lead 13-3 at the halftime break.
As the offense continued to lengthen the lead over the final 30 minutes, the defense was stifling, holding Oglethorpe off the scoreboard completely in the second half. The Lions allowed the Stormy Petrels just four shots on goal in the second half.
Senior faceoff specialist
CHRIS PANNENBACKER delivered a strong opening showing, winning 14-of-23 on the night.
Up next, the Lions will take to the road for three contests, starting with a bout against Birmingham-Southern this Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
