KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - It was a record-setting night for
CARTER BALLSTADT as the senior became Piedmont's all-time career leader in home runs with a blast in the eighth inning of Piedmont's 7-5 win over Washington & Lee.
The Lions scored early and often as Thursday's game marked the fifth game of the season where Piedmont scored seven or more runs.
BODIE EILERTSON was key as the Lions' starter, throwing 5.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs. The Piedmont relief staff of
BRADEN SIMMS,
JUSTIN MANUS and
CARTER BALLSTADT combined for the final 3.1 allowing just two earned runs and no walks.
Ballstadt not only broke the career home runs record but also earned the first save of his senior season closing out the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning including two strikeouts.
COLE ELLIS led Piedmont going 3-for-4 at the top of the order while
KYLE CARLSON and
TYLER NELSON managed triples. For Carlson, it was his lone hit of the night while Nelson also had an RBI single in the first.
Piedmont was out-hit in the contest 13-12, but managed three extra-base hits to the Generals one.
The Lions are back in action Friday taking on Susquehanna at 1 p.m. at Atrium Health Park.

--Washington & Lee was first on the board but each inning the Generals scored, Piedmont was able to answer.

CARTER BALLSTADT broke the career home run record, breaking the previous tie with older brother Brady Ballstadt as Carter now has 16 in his career.
