DEMOREST, Ga. - The magic came early at the Milkjug Saturday as Piedmont pounced on #16 Lynchburg with a five-spot in the first inning to claim a 5-4 win over the Hornets.

The Lions chased the Hornets' starter Nick Mattfield after just 0.2 innings as he surrendered all five runs and faced the entire order. The Hornets went to the bullpen early using a total of four pitchers in the game.

Lynchburg was first on the board though as they got to Piedmont starter ZEKE SWARTZ and loaded the bases with no outs. The Hornets brought around two runs on three hits but stranded two in the top of the first.

Piedmont wasted no time answering back as CARTER BALLSTADT tied the game with a 2-RBI double before the first out was recorded. TYLER NELSON doubled to drive in Ballstadt and gave the Lions the early lead.

NATHAN MIX recorded a sac fly in the inning and JAMES WHITMER hit an RBI-double to score KOLTON HICKS.

With a 5-2 lead after just the first inning, the game quieted down until the fifth when the Hornets' Avery Neaves hit a bomb to tack on another run.

NATHAN BOYCE entered to start the sixth inning and allowed just three hits and one unearned run. Swartz earned the win for his first of the season and third of his career.
