Men's Lacrosse Bounces Back with 21-4 Rout at Spalding

Records: Piedmont, 2-1; Spalding, 0-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In its second game of a three-game road stretch, the Piedmont men's lacrosse team bounced back in a big way Friday night, rolling to a 21-4 win at Spalding.

In the first ever men's lacrosse game for the Golden Eagles, the Lions announced their presence early and often, scoring 12 times in the first quarter and recording the first 15 goals of the game before Spalding tallied its first.

Senior MICHAEL ANDERSON led the Lions and tallied all five of his goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Overall, 10 different Lions scored goals on their way to their second 20+ point outburst in three games to start the season.

Senior WALKER BROWN came off the bench to record his first career hat trick while CHAD HALL also found the back of the net twice for his first two career goals as a Lion.

Much like the team's season-opening win over Oglethorpe, new blood made its mark as freshman and sophomores combined for seven goals with freshmen ISAAC HARRINGTON and ZACH AVILA each scoring twice while sophomore JADON MORINI added two goals as well.

The Lions dominated the shot count by a margin o0f 53-6 while forcing 39 Spalding turnovers for the day.

Starting goalie JOHNNY MATRONA gave way after the first 15 minutes as freshman MIKE EISELE saw his first action as a Lion, playing the final 45 minutes.

Up next, the test will get tougher as the Lions will conclude the road trip with a battle against Centre on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. The Lions fell to the Colonels in a 12-10 classic in Demorest last season.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont removed all doubt from the outcome early, blitzing the Golden Eagles with a 12-0 lead after the first quarter.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- CHAD HALL recorded his first two career goals
- WALKER BROWN delivered his first career hat trick.
- Senior defender DEZMOND STOLLINGS scored his first goal since his freshman season.
- Freshman ZACH AVILA led the team with three assists.
