Volleyball Concludes CCS Play with Split Against Berea and Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the final weekend of CCS play, the Piedmont University volleyball team earned a split with a win 3-2 over Berea and a loss 3-1 to Huntingdon. 

Game one: Piedmont 3, Berea 2

In the second matchup of these two teams, it was more of the same as they are so evenly matched, no set was decided by more than five points. Piedmont was able to charge ahead to a 2-0 lead, but the Mountaineers climbed back to even it and force a fifth. 

In the fourth set, Piedmont led 14-5 and still managed to let Berea back in it. The Lions took the lead 20-16, but then saw the Mountaineers take the lead 22-20, and eventually take the set 25-22. 

The Lions were impressive in the fifth set taking an 8-2 lead, but it once again was a tight match as it came down to a two-point margin, 15-13. 

Kaylee Ashcraft tallied 14 kills for Piedmont while Vanessa Manzo added 32 assists.

Game two: Huntingdon 3, Piedmont 1

The Hawks of Huntingdon proved to be too much for Piedmont in a 3-1 loss. Huntingdon charged ahead in the first, but Piedmont fought back to even the match at 1-1. 

It was close in the third set as Huntingdon claimed it 25-23, but in the fourth set, the Hawks left no doubt with a 25-11 win. 

Huntingdon posted 42 kills to Piedmonts 41 as Jenna Ash led Piedmont with 12 kills. 

Up next, Piedmont will head to Bob Jones for a matchup on Tuesday, October 31. 

TURNING POINT:
--It was close throughout against Berea with the final set decided by just two points. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Kaylee Ashcraft led the Lions with her 14 kills against Berea, one away from her career-high.
