DEMOREST, Ga. - The No. 3 seed Piedmont University men's soccer team is set to host the No. 6 seed Maryville College in the CCS Tournament Quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Lions roll into the postseason with ample momentum following their final regular season win over Belhaven. Entering the day in sixth place, Piedmont fell behind 2-0 in the first half of the contest. Piedmont refused to go quietly, rallying back in the second half. Senior
Brady Puckett drew a penalty which junior
Jason Aussin put away. Puckett then scored the game-tying goal and with just minutes left in the contest, the Lions stole the win. A ball over the top from sophomore
Colin Vogel was put away by freshman
Delroy Mattis as the game finished 3-2.
With the win, Piedmont denied Belhaven the CCS regular season championship and positioned themselves in third for upcoming post season tournament.
REGULAR SEASON v. THE SCOTS:
Maryville 4, Piedmont 3 (10/14/23)
At Maryville during the regular season, things did not go the Lions' way. Originally holding the lead, the two squads went to the break tied 1-1. It took just 70 seconds of action in the second half for the Scots to claim the lead and never look back. By the 58th minute, Maryville held a two goal lead but there was still hope for the Lions. Junior
Jason Aussin scored a crucial penalty kick for Piedmont to claw back within one. The lead was stretched back to two with under ten minutes to play. Freshman
Davis Knight did his best to bring the Lions back once more, scoring his 11th goal of the season but with little time remaining, the game concluded 4-3.
