MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont women's soccer team was unable to generate offense in a 3-0 road loss at Maryville on Wednesday night.
In a rematch of last season's CCS Championship, the Scots were in control throughout, scoring once in the first half and adding a pair of insurance goals in the second half to pull away.
Maryville returned the favor on the Lions, as Piedmont was victorious in 3-0 fashion in last season's regular season matchup in Demorest.
The Scots held a 23-1 shot advantage for the contest, while Piedmont goalkeeper
Haylee Dornan made seven saves to keep Piedmont within striking distance in the early going.
The game was scoreless until the 18th minute, when Maryville standout Hannah Smoot found the back of the net to give the Scots a 1-0 lead, where it stood going into halftime.
However, the Scots' Anabelle Procter wasted no time in adding a goal early in the second half and punctuated her evening with one more in the final minute to make it a 3-0 final in Maryville's favor.
The loss snapped Piedmont's three-game win streak.
Up next, the Lions will return home and host Warren Wilson this Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
