Men's Soccer Drops Home Opener 3-1

NEED TO KNOW:

Score: Piedmont 1, Reinhardt 3
Record: Piedmont, 0-2-1; Reinhardt, 1-2-0

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Lions dropped their 2022 home opener to Reinhardt University in 3-1 fashion on Wednesday night.

It didn't take long for the Eagles to begin mounting pressure as Freshman Keeper BOBBY WOOD was forced to turn away two looks within the first five minutes of the contest. The Lions moved quickly to counterattack, a theme that would last the remainder of the night. They registered their first shot of the night in the 6th minute from Sophomore Forward JASON AUSSIN.

However, the back-and-forth action saw Reinhardt score first in the 16th minute as Carlos Ayala-Viera netted a ball played across the box from Aramis Rohner to make it 1-0 Eagles.

Piedmont continued to weather the storm and look for opportunities as the half progressed but a mistake in the box cost the Lions their 2nd concession of the evening and moved the score line to 2-0 in the 44th minute.

Out of the break, the Lions came out firing. In the 53rd minute, Freshman COLIN VOGEL forced a turnover in the midfield that led to a counterattack opportunity. Vogel played the ball ahead to Aussin, who slipped past his defender and beat the keeper bottom-left for the first goal of his career.

The Lions momentum was short lived as two minutes later, Reinhardt would tack on a third in the 55th minute.

The game continued to be eventful but neither team would find the back of the net again and the contest finished 3-1 Eagles.

Up next, the Lions will take on Greensboro College in another home contest on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Demorest.

TURNING POINT:

Reinhardt scored in the 55th minute to quell the Lions momentum they had just gained after bringing the game back within one just moments before.
