AUBURN, ALA. - Athletes from Piedmont's Men's and Women's Cycling teams competed in 4 different race events at Chewacla State Park for the first Mountain Bike SECCC race of the season. We had four women from our Women's Cycling team, and nine men from our Men's Cycling team compete. Overall, the team had 12 top 5 finishes.
For the XC race on Saturday, we had three cyclists from our women's team competing in Women's A. RHYLEE WITTROCK with an amazing 6th place finished followed by KATIE PROWELL in 7th and EMMA FROST in 8th. In Men's A, JADEN GRIMES displayed a great race with a 4th place finish, and BEN KOLBIE with an 8th place finish. SAM RIDEOUT also snagged a 4th place finish in Men's C.
Saturday continued with eleven Men and Women cyclists taking on Dual Slalom racing. Majo Montoya had an amazing day of racing grabbing a 1st place win in Women's A. KATIE PROWELL also scored 1st place in Women's C. DEXTER CAHILL was able to battle for the 2nd Place in Men's C.
Sunday Morning started with Short Track. JADEN GRIMES was able to get another 4th place finish in Men's A. DYLAN LINDSEY was able to fight for a 2nd place finish in Men's B after an upsetting crash out of the XC race on Saturday. BEN KOLBIE also was able to get 10th place in Men's A. SAM RIDEOUT had an amazing top 3 finish getting 3rd in Men's C. All four of our women cyclists who were at the race competed in the Short Track. KATIE PROWELL was able to work up to a 5th place finish in Women's A and RHYLEE WITTROCK was able to grab a 7th place finish in Women's A.
The team ended the weekend with Downhill. Majo Montoya took another win in Women's A. Also in Women's A, EMMA FROST got 8th place. In Women's C, KATIE PROWELL took 1st place and RHYLEE WITTROCK got 5th. All four of our men that raced DH got a top 10 finish. QUILL MARTIN comes in 9th for Men's A, HAYDEN BASSETT places 8th for Men's B, SAMUEL WOODALL gets 7th for Men's C, and DEXTER CAHILL gets 9th for Men's C.
The team will be spread out next weekend for Track Nationals, Truett McConnell SECCC race, and Fools Gold.
