YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team opened its fall 2022 season this past Friday, battling a host of teams at the Young Harris Fall Invitational in Young Harris, Georgia.

The Lions brought 12 players up the mountain to compete, with a number gaining their first collegiate playing experience.

Overall, Piedmont picked up a total of eight singles wins as the only Division III team playing in the event.

The Lions added five doubles victories as COOPER KEWORK and RYAN RAUGH finished the day with a perfect 2-0 record, including a 6-4 win over a doubles team from Reinhardt.

Two Lion newcomers picked up their first collegiate victories, highlighted by freshman Yannick Wassmer's win over Young Harris's Chimo Minguez Ribera. The freshman from Spain rallied back after dropping the first setto take the second set and then win the third-set superbreaker for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 triumph. 
 

Fellow freshmen CONNOR PHELPS and AUSTYN ADDERLY also got on the board with their first college wins. Phelps added a doubles win with LEO GALARZA over a team from Shorter and dominated with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win over Caleb Harper (Shorter).
 

Adderly picked up a singles win late in the day and also teamed with JC FOSTER for a 7-5 doubles victory over a pair from Shorter.
 

Overall, nine different Lions collected a singles victory on the day while 10 different players had a doubles win.
 

Up next, Piedmont will travel to Montgomery, Alabama to play in the Huntingdon Invitational beginning this Friday, Sept. 16.
