DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team remained perfect in conference and tied the program record for wins in a season with a 9-0 sweep over Brevard on a blustery Thursday afternoon at the Burgen Tennis Courts.
The win marked the Lions' fourth consecutive 9-0 sweep in a conference match and sets up a showdown with Covenant on Saturday afternoon between two undefeated teams.
Thursday afternoon was all Piedmont from the beginning, as it rolled in two of the three doubles matches, won a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles and then swept all six singles lines in clinical fashion to complete the shutout.
CHRIS BALE and
PATRICK DEMPSEY began the day with a perfect 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles before
MIKE PORCELLI and
ROMAN WEBB only lost a single game in a win at No. 2.
Playing together for just the second time this season, the No. 1 doubles team of
JACKSON TRAYLOR and
ALBERTO NUNEZ prevailed, 8-5, to finish off the doubles sweep and give the Lions a 3-0 lead going to singles.
Singles action brought more dominance from the Lions, as the Tornados were unable to get more than two games in any single set.
With No. 1 through No. 3 singles going on court first, Porcelli made it 4-0 Piedmont with a 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 before
BRYCE VANORDER earned the clincher with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 in a battle of two left-handers with Brevard's Bryce Bernitt.

Nunez closed out a win at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1 before Bale (6-2, 6-0), Dempsey (6-0, 6-0) and
COOPER KEWORK (6-1, 6-1) ended the festivities with dominant performances at No. 4, 5 and 6.
Up next, the Lions will host Covenant this Saturday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. in a battle of USA South unbeatens.
