DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team saw its winning streak snapped in a hard-fought 8-1 loss to Covenant on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon in Demorest.
All three doubles matches were closely contested, but the Scots were able to prevail in two of three and carried the momentum into singles, where they won all six lines.
Piedmont was able to put the first point of the match on the board as
CHRIS BALE and
PATRICK DEMPSEY continued their outstanding work of late with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
However, Covenant was able to flip the momentum, emerging victorious in a pair of hard-fought matches at No. 2 and No. 1.
Trailing 2-1 going into singles, the No. 1 through No. 3 singles matches were on court first.
The Scots were able to clinch the match at 5-1 as all three went their way in straight sets.
Piedmont battled at the back of the lineup, as Bale and Dempsey each went to a third set superbreaker. The Scots were able to take both and win the match 8-1.
Up next, the Lions will close out their regular season next Wednesday, April 13 at 1 p.m. with a home match against LaGrange.
