BREVARD, N.C. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season in dominating fashion with a 28-4 win over Brevard on the road. The win moves Piedmont's record to 8-1 to close out conference play with a 10-7 mark overall.
The contest was all Lions from the start as
AVERY JENKS got Piedmont on the board first with a goal less than three minutes in. Piedmont tacked on three goals during the third minute of play as Jenks scored with 12:54 on the clock,
JOSH FRALEY scored with 12:25 to go in the first and
WILLIAM FRENCH capped off the trilogy with a goal with 12:11 remaining.
After the scoring onslaught, the Lions were able to add six more goals in the first period to take a commanding 9-0 advantage. In the second, the Tornados got back a goal in a man-up opportunity but Piedmont answered back with seven unanswered to lead 16-1 at the half.
Piedmont added two goals inside the final minute of play in the first half as
JADON MORINI scored in a man-up opportunity and
IAN PARR capped off the half with a goal in the final 10 seconds.
The Lions once again held the Tornados off the scoreboard in the third inning with the Lions adding six goals to lead 22-1 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, the Tornados were able to tack on three goals as the Lions claimed the 28-4 win.
BRADY MCGUIRE led Piedmont with eight points accounting for five goals and three assists while
AVERY JENKS contributed six points with four goals and two assists.
In total, 12 Lions found the back of the cage.
JOHNNY MATRONA earned the win after spending the first quarter in cage for the Lions while
GUIDO CUCCIA,
PARKER CHEATHAM and
NATHAN BAZEMORE each worked a quarter.
Up next, the Lions will await their opponent for the USA South Tournament which is set to begin Tuesday, May 3.
