DANVILLE, Va. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team rebounded in a big way, rolling past Averett for a 26-5 road win Saturday afternoon in Danville, Virginia.
The Lions dominated from start-to-finish and never trailed, leading 6-1 after the first quarter and 14-2 at halftime.
Senior attackman
AVERY JENKS delivered his fourth consecutive hat trick, with a team-best four goals to go along with a pair of assists. Overall, 13 different Lions scored in the contest with nine scoring more than once.
The game was scoreless for the first five plus minutes before Jenks' first of the day broke the scoreless tie. The Cougars answered back quickly to tie things back up at 1-1 before Piedmont responded by scoring the next seven goals in a row to take control of the contest.
Averett finally broke the run with its second of the day to make it an 8-2 Piedmont lead early in the second quarter. Once again, the Lions roared back, with six straight goals to end the second period and three coming from Jenks.
The second half was more Piedmont domination, as it outscored the Cougars 8-1 in the third quarter and then 4-2 in the fourth to close out the victory.
Piedmont's 26 goals Saturday marked a season high, just one more than the 25 it scored in the season opener against Warren Wilson.
Up next, the Lions will return home to host West Division rival Huntingdon this Tuesday, April 5 at 6 p.m.
