SEWANEE. Tenn. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team was unable to mount a comeback, falling 16-10 at Sewanee on Wednesday evening.
Senior attackman
AVERY JENKS continued his outstanding senior campaign, leading the Lions with five goals and an assist. Freshman
JADON MORINI was the only other Lion with multiple goals, scoring twice.
Piedmont opened the scoring as Jenks scored the first of his five goals not even one minute into the contest. However, the Tigers responded quickly, scoring the next four goals over a 2:19 span to take a lead they never relinquished.
Jenks scored two more times late in a high-scoring first quarter to bring Piedmont's deficit to 5-4, but a Sewanee goal to make it 6-4 concluded the scoring in the first 15 minutes.
The Tigers established firm control of the contest in the second quarter, holding Piedmont's offense to just one goal and stretching their lead to 9-5 going into the break.
After Sewanee opened the second-half scoring to go up 10-5, the Lions fought back, scoring three of the next four to cut its deficit to 11-9.Â
However, that was as as close as Piedmont was able to get, as the Tigers once again stifled the Piedmont attack in the fourth quarter to win going away.
Up next, the Lions will return home from their lengthy road trip, hosting Concorida University (Wis.) next Tuesday, March 15 at 6 p.m.
