DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team claimed a come-from-behind victory Tuesday over the Falcons of Concordia (Wis.).
BRADY MCGUIRE showed up often in the stat sheet with four goals for the Lions including three straight in a two minute span in the third quarter. That was the stretch that saw the Lions charge ahead as Piedmont outscored Concordia (Wis.) 4-1 in the third period.
The Falcons took a 3-0 lead after one quarter as the Lions were silenced early, but five different Lions scored in the second period as McGuire's first goal of the day with 2:23 till halftime put Piedmont ahead for the first time in the game 5-4.
Concordia (Wis.) tied the contest with a last second goal before the break to make it 5-5 at halftime.
JADON MORINI tallied three goals in the contest with his second claiming the lead 6-5 in the in the third quarter off an assist by
CONNOR ROGERS.
Piedmont used a 5-0 run in the second half to distance themselves enough to secure the win leading 11-6 with just under 12 minutes to play before the Falcons added two goals in the fourth period.
Up next, the Lions will head to Methodist Saturday to begin conference play taking on the Monarchs.
TURNING POINT:
--The Lions scored five straight in the second half to take a commanding lead including three straight by sophomore
BRADY MCGUIRE.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--McGuire and Morini both recorded hat tricks as McGuire scored four with two assists while Morini added three goals.
--
JOHNNY MATRONA allowed eight goals while recording seven saves.
--The Falcons' Adam Nichols was impressive in cage with 24 saves while allowing 11 goals.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Piedmont held a 66-24 advantage on shots with the Lions recording 35 shots on goal.
