Lady Lions Rally Past Hendrix 15-8

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's lacrosse team rallied past Hendrix 15-8 on Sunday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.

The Lady Lions had control of the game early before the Warriors battled back to tie the score at 8-8 with 9:20 left in the final quarter. From there, though, it was all Piedmont, which scored the next eight goals in a row to win going away.

The win marks the third in a row for the Lady Lions, who are now back at .500 after an 0-3 start.

Junior LINDLEY WARD tallied a career-high six goals for Piedmont while freshmen MERRYN BUMPASS and ALY REECE each recorded hat tricks with three goals apiece.

 
It was Bumpass who opened the scoring, with her first of the contest at 10:54 left in the first quarter. After Hendrix tallied the next two goals to jump in front, Reece's first of the day concluded the scoring in the opening period..

Piedmont dominated the second quarter, holding the Warriors off the scoreboard completely while adding four goals to take a 6-2 advantage into the break. The Lady Lions held a 14-2 edge in shots on goal in the half.

Reece opened the second-half scoring to put the Lions up 7-2 early in the third quarter before Hendrix started its comeback. 

The Warriors used a 6-1 run to knot the game up at 8-8 with 9:20 left in the contest. However, the Lions took control from that point forward. Junior EMILIE BAKER's first and only goal of the game off an assist from MAGGI SPRATLIN proved to be the difference with 5:52 remaining.

The momentum completely shifted from that point, with the Lady Lions scoring the next six goals to run away from the Warriors.

Up next, the Lady Lions will host Averett next Saturday, March 12 at 12 p.m. to open USA South competition.

 TURNING POINT:
- With the score tied at 8-8, Spratlin's feed to Baker gave Piedmont the lead and sparked a 7-0 run to end the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Ward scored three of her career-best six goals in the second half to lead the Lady Lions.
- Reece and Bumpass added three goals apiece while fellow newcomer Spratlin tallied a pair of assists.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont held a 25-10 edge on shots on goal while holding the Warriors to 9-of-24 on clear attempts.
