DEMOREST, Ga. - In a game that came down to the final out, Piedmont was unable to mount a comeback in a 7-5 loss to Methodist in game one of the series. The Lions loaded the bases in the ninth but were unable to convert.

Piedmont was able to capitalize early with an error costing the Monarchs a run in the first. COLE ELLIS hit a single up the middle and stole second before CARTER BALLSTADT reached on an error. The error allowed Ballstadt to get to second and Ellis to come home making it 1-0.

The Monarchs tied the game in the fourth inning but Piedmont was quick to reclaim the lead. KYLE CARLSON homered in the fourth inning and the Lions drove in three total to lead 4-1. 

Methodist tied the game back up in the fifth inning with three runs of their own before tacking on three more in the seventh. Piedmont added on in the seventh as well to make it 7-5, but the Lions left the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings. 

Up next, Piedmont hosts Methodist for a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon. 

TURNING POINT:
--The Monarchs scored three in the seventh inning to take the lead and the Lions were unable to mount a comeback. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--COLE ELLIS was 3-for-6 and reached on an error while also adding a stolen base. 
--KYLE CARLSON went yard again with a 2-RBI home run in the fourth inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Piedmont left 15 on the base paths while Methodist left 10 runners on base.
