DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team fell behind early and never recovered in a 23-10 loss to Southern Virginia on a blustery Saturday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
The Knights outscored the Lions 13-2 in the first half, building an insurmountable advantage.
It did not take long for SVU to take control, as it scored twice in the first minute and added another goal at 12:06 in the first quarter before Piedmont cracked the scoreboard on a goal by
MICHAEL ANDERSON.
The Knights scored four more times in the first quarter and delivered a 5-0 shutout in the second to build the 11-goal advantage going to the break.
Piedmont fought back in the second half, as SVU only held a 10-8 edge in the second half scoring column.
AVERY JENKS led Piedmont in scoring with three goals while adding two assists. The senior attackman now needs just three more assists for the career program record.
BRADY MCGUIRE and
JOSH FRALEY also added a pair of goals, with both scoring twice in the second half.
Goalkeeper
JOHNNY MATRONA made 14 saves in the loss.
Up next, the Lions will be on the road to take on Averett next Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
