Women's Lacrosse Falls to Centre 19-9

DEMOREST, Ga. - In non-conference action Thursday evening, the Piedmont women's lacrosse team fell to Centre College 19-9. Piedmont led in the second quarter, but the lead was short lived and the Colonels took control of the contest. 

In the first quarter, there were a combined 17 turnovers as Centre outshot Piedmont 12-3 in the first 15 minutes. The Colonels led the contest 3-2 after the first, but Piedmont rallied to take a 4-3 lead after MACHAELA SMITH scored with 10:34 on the clock before halftime. 

Centre reeled off four straight to reclaim a 7-4 lead before Piedmont's CARA CRUMP notched her second goal of the game. The Colonels led at the break 8-5 and continued to dominate in the second half outscoring Piedmont 11-4.

MERRYN BUMPASS led Piedmont with four goals while both Crump and LINDLEY WARD tacked on two of their own. 

Up next, the Lady Lions will host William Peace Saturday at 3 p.m. at Walker Athletic Complex. 

 TURNING POINT:
--Centre scored four straight in the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead and never trailed again in the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--MERRYN BUMPASS tallied four goals for the Lady Lions to lead the team. 
--Piedmont had just three assists in the contest but all came from ALY REECE.
