DEMOREST, Ga. - In game one of a three-game series against Elizabethtown College, the Piedmont University baseball team dropped an 8-3 contest Sunday evening. The two will meet for a doubleheader Monday beginning at noon.
The Lions were unable to get much going offensively after the first inning with just four total hits after a two run, two hit first inning. In the first,
COLE ELLIS doubled and was driven in by
HUNTER CAIN who also doubled.
Elizabethtown unleashed in the third inning with five runs on three hits and a pair of errors as
BODIE EILERTSON pitched five innings allowing just one earned run, despite leaving with the contest sitting at 7-2 Blue Jays.
Piedmont was able to plate a run in the eighth inning after a two-base error put
COLE ELLIS in scoring position for
CARTER BALLSTADT. Ballstadt doubled to send him around for the final run of the contest for the Lions.
The Blue Jays scored eight runs on eight hits with the assistance of four Piedmont errors.
Up next, Piedmont hosts Elizabethtown for a doubleheader Monday beginning at 12 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
--The Blue Jays were able to capitalize on defensive errors for Piedmont with a five-run third inning to take a clear lead.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Piedmont's pitchers combined for just two earned runs in the contest and nine strikeouts.
--Offensively, all four of Piedmont's hits were doubles in the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--The Lions struggled defensively with four errors in the contest.
