DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team fell short in a 7-2 home matchup against Methodist University Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Lions stumbled in all three doubles lines, allowing the Monarchs to settle in and sustain four of the six singles lines for the overall win.
 
Methodist began the afternoon with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles before winning 8-2 at No. 2 and 8-4 at No. 3 comfortably entering singles play with a 3-0 lead.
 
With the No. 1 - No. 6 singles matches going on court, the Monarchs took four out of the six in straight sets including Jordan Theron, #7 in the country, earning the first singles point of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
 
After Methodist won at No. 1 in straight sets to go up 4-0, PATRICK DEMPSEY secured the first point for the Lions at No. 6 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. 
 
Despite the Lions hope for recovery, the Monarchs clinched the match at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3. Shortly after, the Monarchs moved further ahead with a straight set win at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-1. 
 
In the Lions' fighting spirit, HOUSTON MEDLOCK was able to secure the Lions last point of the day with a straight set nail biter 6-2, 7-6 (5). Then, playing No.2 singles at 6-2, 6-4, the Monarchs secured a 7-2 overall win over Piedmont.
 
Up next, the Lions will host Berry College Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- The bottom of the singles lineup stood out in the home match, with HOUSTON MEDLOCK and PATRICK DEMPSEY contending and securing victories to put the Lions on the scoreboard.
