DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team was unable to fend off a second half rally by Birmingham-Southern in a 14-9 home loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions held a pair of multi-goal leads in the first half, but the Panthers used an 8-0 scoring run overlapping the second and third quarters to take control of the contest.

Piedmont scored the first two goals of the game before taking another lead at 4-2 early in the second quarter. After BSC knotted the score at 4-4 minutes later, the Lions took their final lead of the game on an AVERY JENKS goal with 6:04 left in the second quarter.

Unfortunately, the Lions were held off the scoreboard completely until 12:27 left in the final quarter, when the game was mostly out of reach.

Jenks led the Lions with three goals, recording his second straight hat trick to start the season while fellow senior PHILLIP WATTERS added a pair of goals including a top left corner rocket that put the Lions up 4-2 early in the second period.

BSC trailed 5-4 midway through the second, but ended the first half with momentum, taking its first lead with 43 seconds left before the break.

From there, the Panthers turned the game with a dominant third quarter in which they outscored the Lions 6-0 and led 12-5 going to the final period.

However, Piedmont battled until the final whistle, scoring three times in the final minute.

Up next, the Lions will take to the road for another battle with an SAA foe. This time, it is Berry with the game scheduled for this Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
