DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's basketball team put up a valiant effort but fell to Maryville 78-59 on Thursday night at Cave Arena.

The game marked Piedmont's final contest at home in the 2021-22 season.

Piedmont held tough in the early going, taking a 30-25 lead on JUSTIN QUICK's layup with 5:22 remaining. However, the Scots increased their pressure on the defensive end, holding the Lions scoreless for the rest of the half and used a 14-0 run to take a 39-30 advantage into the locker room.

EVAN EASTON and NOAH REARDON were the Piedmont stars in the first 20 minutes, with Easton scoring eight points and Reardon pitching in seven on a combined 6-of-8 from the field.

Leading by nine, the Scots blitzed the Lions coming out of the locker room, forcing three consecutive turnovers and a 7-0 run to lead 46-30.

JOE HELENBROOK's two made free throws with nine minutes left cut the Piedmont deficit to 56-47. However, that was as close as the Lions were able to make it, as the Scots retook the momentum and increased their lead back to double digits and iced the game away.

Up next, Piedmont will conclude its regular season this Saturday, Feb. 19 with a road matchup against Huntingdon.
