ATLANTA, Ga. – The Piedmont University women's basketball team was selected to finish second in the CCS Coaches Preseason Poll released on Wednesday.
After finishing second in the regular season and losing in the Semifinals of the USA South tournament, the Lady Lions are set to begin their inaugural season in the CCS.
Berea topped the charts with 58 points and received five (5) first place votes in the polls after coming off a strong 2021-22 season. Piedmont finished just five points behind the Mountaineers with 53, receiving two (2) first place votes.
Maryville received a first place vote with one (1) and the Scotts were picked to finish 3rd in the poll with 50 points. LaGrange, who was selected 4th, was the top team to not receiving a first place vote with 47 total points.
Belhaven finished behind the Panthers in total points with 33 but received the final (1) first place vote.
Piedmont returns a number of players who saw significant minutes during the 2021-22 season and is led by a senior class that includes the teams highest returning point scorer Nakiyah Washington.
The 2022-23 season begins on the road for the Lady Lions as they take on Sewanne in the CCS/SAA Classic on Saturday, Nov. 12.
