Piedmont Drops Hard Fought Battles to Berea & Huntingdon

NEED TO KNOW: 

Match 1 Score: Berea 3, Piedmont 2 

Match 2 Score: Huntingdon 3, Piedmont 1 

Record: 3-13 (3-5) 

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University women's volleyball team dropped both matches on the day to Berea and Huntingdon. Both contests were tightly contested.  

MATCH 1: Berea 3, Piedmont 2 

The Lady Lions battled hard to a five-set loss against a stout Berea squad. The Lady Lions dropped the opening set 25-14 before battling back to win set two 25-23 and set three 25-23. The Mountaineers responded in set four by winning 25-23. The fourth set included a four-point rally from Berea when down 11-15.  

In the fifth set, the Mountaineers went on a five-point run out of the gates and never looked back. They held a minimum lead of three points for the remainder of the set and finished the contest 15-10.  

TAYLOR HERRMANN had 37 digs and BROOKLYN GUNN posted 20 assists in the contest.  

MATCH 2: Huntingdon 3, Piedmont 1 

Against Huntingdon, the Lady Lions dropped the opening set 25-16.  

Piedmont answered right back in the second set, battling to a 28-26 win after trailing 23-24 in the set.  

During the third set, Piedmont fell behind in the middle portion and never recovered. After dropping the third set 25-14, the Lady Lions fought hard in the fourth set and forced the game into extra points to decide a winner. Huntingdon eventually secured the win 28-26. 
 

KATIE HUBBARD and JENNA ASH tied for the team lead in kills with 12. 


Up next, Piedmont takes on Bob Jones in Greenville, S.C. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The contest is set for 7 p.m.
