JACKSON, Miss – In their final CCS contest of the regular season, the Lions were able to pull out a late-night win at Belhaven 1-0.
Piedmont battled hard through the first 25 minutes to keep the contest neutral but as the half went on, Belhaven began to dominate possession. The Lions would only find two shots in the half but the score line remained tied going into halftime.
In the 61st minute, Piedmont took one of its few opportunities and capitalized. The Lions were able to make a break for the box off a throw in as
MOHAMMED ALSUWEYDI was able to find freshman Cristi Pascuru who put a laser into the top left corner to put Piedmont in front 1-0.
As the half continued, the Lions found another opportunity off a free kick nearly 30 yards out. The shot by
JASON AUSSIN was placed into the top right corner was saved by Max Rudolph.
The Blazers battled hard and had a late opportunity, including a well-served corner kick. However, Piedmont's defense refused to crack and the contest finished 1-0 in favor of the Lions.
Up next, Piedmont has a fast turnaround as they take on Mississippi University for Women on Sunday, October 23 in Columbus, Miss. Kickoff is set from 2 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont was outshot in the first half 11-2.
- Both teams doubled the amount of shots after 90 minutes with a final tally of 22-4.
