DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University volleyball team dropped a midweek non-conference match to Oglethorpe Wednesday evening 3-0. The Lady Lions kept it close throughout falling 25-20, 25-19, 25-22. 

In the opening set, Piedmont clawed back to take a 10-9 lead and kept it close including a tie at 17-all. The Lady Lions took an advantage 18-17 before the Stormy Petrels rattled off an 8-2 run to close out the first set 25-20.

Piedmont was down early in the second set 6-2 as the Stormy Petrels rode momentum out of the first set, but the Lady Lions did not surrender quietly. 

The Lady Lions trailed 16-10 but fought back to trail by two 18-16. Piedmont fought till the end but Oglethorpe took a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the second set.

In the third set, Piedmont looked to be making a run at claiming a set of their own, leading 13-9 midway through. Oglethorpe claimed a 21-17 lead and did not look back closing out the match 25-22 for the straight sets victory. 

Up next, the Lady Lions will host Covenant and LaGrange for senior day inside Cave Arena Saturday at 12 & 4 p.m., respectively. 

TURNING POINT:
--Oglethorpe won in straight sets but the Lady Lions threatened throughout dropping no set by more than six points. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Oglethorpe's Jackie Schner tallied 18 kills in the contest accounting for 18 of their 48 on the night. 
--JENNA ASH led Piedmont with eight kills.
