Piedmont Volleyball Drops Pair of CCS Matches

NEED TO KNOW:

JACKSON, Miss. - The Piedmont University volleyball team dropped a pair of CCS matches on the road Saturday falling 3-0 to Maryville and 3-2 to Belhaven. 

Match 1: Maryville 3, Piedmont 0

In the first match of the day, Piedmont was unable to take a set against the Scots but battled to keep it close throughout. Maryville claimed the first set 25-21, and followed that with a 25-20 win before sealing the match with a 25-17 win. 

Piedmont totaled 26 kills in the match with 12 in the final set. JENNA ASH led the Lady Lions with nine kills while BROOKLYN GUNN added 13 assists. 

Match 2: Belhaven 3, Piedmont 2

Against the Blazers, Piedmont took the first set before falling behind 2-1 and battling to tie the match. In the deciding fifth set, Piedmont held an early 8-5 lead before trailing 14-11. 

The Blazers eventually took the fifth set 15-13 to claim the match. 

Piedmont totaled 37 kills in the match with 10 in the second set. JESSICA SCONYERS once again made herself known at the net with four blocks. 

Up next, the Lady Lions head to Agnes Scott to face the Scotties on Tuesday, October 18.

TURNING POINT:
--Maryville took control in the final set but the Lady Lions kept it close in the first two. 
--Piedmont evened it out 2-2 heading to the deciding fifth set but the Blazers claimed the match with a 15-13 set win. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--ALAINA MCDONALD led Piedmont in the second contest of the day with eight kills. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--This marked Piedmont's fifth five-set match of the year with a 1-4 record in those contests.
