BEREA, Ky. - A gloomy and windy day saw the Lions and Mountaineers battle to a draw.
It didn't take long for the scoring to get started. In the 10th minute off a corner kick, Christopher Mendy headed the high cross into the back of the net. The early concession put the Lions down 1-0.
However, just 8 minutes later, the Lions would strike back. An errant free kick by the Mountaineers was taken away by Sophomore JASON AUSSIN inside the box. Aussin slipped around the only defender between him and the net and buried the opportunity in the bottom corner to equalize 1-1.
The tied contest would be short lived as Berea scored for a second time in the 31st minute, thanks to the left foot of Julio Vargas-Aguilera.
Berea kept their foot on the gas and just moments after starting the second half extended their lead to 3-1.
The Lions refused to go quietly as a long cross from the right wing in the 59th found Aussin on the first touch and was put away by Freshman COLIN VOGEL to bring the Lions within one.
Then, not even two minutes later, the Lions would be awarded a free kick just outside the box after a hard tackle on Aussin. Freshman CRISTI PASCARU put the free kick bottom left and equalized the contest once again at 3-3. It was his first career collegiate goal.
Both Piedmont and Berea saw true chances late to pull ahead, but neither side was able to convert and the contest finished tied at 3-3.
Up next, Piedmont will head to Huntingdon for their next CCS matchup on Saturday Oct. 8. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
