Greensboro Rallies Past Piedmont with Big Second Half

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Greensboro 3, Piedmont 2
Records: Greensboro, 3-6; Piedmont, 2-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Piedmont University's men's soccer team looked to be in good position to end its current losing skid on Sunday, but couldn't fend off a furious second-half comeback from the Greensboro Pride.

After using a Greensboro own goal to help build a 2-0 lead, the Pride rattled off three goals in the second half to escape with a 3-2 victory and hand the Lions their fourth straight loss.

Three of Piedmont's four losses during the current skid have been by just one goal.

The Lions got on the board late in the action-packed first half as senior CAMERON EARLS netted his sixth goal of the season to put Piedmont up 1-0. Both teams had chances to score in the first half as the two sides combined to take 15 shots in the opening 45 minutes.

Piedmont extended the lead to 2-0 after the Pride botched a defensive assignment and gifted the Lions with an own goal, the first in a Piedmont game this season.

While the 2-0 lead had the Piedmont spirits up, it also lit a fire for Greensboro as the Pride went on a scoring tear in the minutes that followed.

Less than three minutes after the own goal, Greensboro got on the board with a goal by Darli Mihindou in the 59th minute, then tallied the equalizer less than 60 seconds later with a score from William Curry.

The Pride's second goal came on a rebound shot that bounced away after a save from Piedmont keeper CJ WYBORN.

With momentum on their side, the Pride fired off a couple more shots in the minutes that followed and finally cashed in on the game-winning goal in the 68th minute off the foot of Jordy Briceno.

Inside the Box Score:
- Piedmont was outshot 21-14, but its 14 shots is the most in the last three games and the third-most in a game this season.
- The two teams were whistled for just 14 fouls total in the game.

Up Next:
- The Lions begin USA South Athletic Conference play next weekend when they travel to Maryville, Tennessee to battle the Scots on Saturday, September 25, at 4:30 p.m.
