Records: LaGrange, 3-0; Piedmont, 2-3
DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont University's men's soccer lost another hotly contested match on Sunday afternoon, this time in a physical, non-conference matchup with LaGrange College.
The Lions were short-handed from the beginning with a couple of key players missing due to injury, that that lack of depth was heightened by the team's late arrival back to campus on Sunday morning after the team's trip to Maryville, Tennessee.
From the start, the Lions looked fatigued and struggled to keep pace with the Panthers, who took on the role of aggressor for the entirety of the game. That mentality paid off early for the Panthers as a long run out for Austin Anderson set up their first scoring chance in just the ninth minute of the game.
Piedmont's keeper
CJ WYBORN came out and attempted a slide tackle on Anderson, which resulted in a red card for the freshman and thrusting back up keeper, freshman
CALLEN LOMAS, into action for the first time in his collegiate career.
Lomas was unable to stop Blake Webb's ensuring penalty kick, which gave LaGrange a 1-0 lead.
Despite being outshot 10-4 in. the opening period, Piedmont managed to keep to it close and took advantage of the narrow margin in the 57
th minute.
Sophomore
MIHAI STATE launched a long pass down the left sideline to get senior
CAMERON EARLS into space, and Earls drew contact in the box to set up a penalty kick of his own. Earls' fifth goal of the season went bottom left and evened the game up at 1-1.
The equalizer ignited a fire in the Piedmont squad that had been lacking from the start, and the pace of the game picked up significantly from there. However, that energy was short lived as the Panthers struck twice within a two-minute span not long after.
Enrique Hernandez muscled his way to a goal in the 67
th minute before Asher Hendon was the benefactor of a free kick in the 68
th minute, touching one in on a pass from Webb. LaGrange was quickly up 3-1 and never looked back.
Both sides played to contact as 26 fouls were issued along with six total cards.

- Piedmont shot just eight times to LaGrange's 19 attempts, with eight of LaGrange's being on goal. The Lions had just one shot on goal, which was Earls' penalty kick score.
