DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont baseball's
CARTER BALLSTADT and
SAM CARPENTER have been named to the All-South Region First Team by D3baseball.com.
Ballstadt follows in the steps of his brother Brady Ballstadt who earned the honors in 2017-2019. For both
CARTER BALLSTADT and
SAM CARPENTER this marks the first time joining the prestigious listing.
In Carpenter's final year in the Green and Gold, the senior from Gainesville, Ga. is currently third in DIII in strikeouts finishing the season with 123. Carpenter led the Lions with a 2.42 ERA with a 9-4 mark on the mound.
He pitched just over 100 innings with opponents hitting just .228 against him. This season, Carpenter was named USA South Pitcher of the Week twice and broke the program career records for strikeouts (368) and wins (30).
Ballstadt currently is tied for the lead in DIII with 10 saves on the season as he got it done on the mound, in the field and at the plate in 2021. The Gainesville native started all 37 of Piedmont's games in center field while also serving as the team's closer, making 18 relief appearances and leading the team with 25.1 innings out of the bullpen.
At the plate, Ballstadt enjoyed a breakout season, finishing second on the team with a .330 batting average while leading the team with 34 RBI and tying for a team-high three home runs. He was perhaps even more impressive on the mound, striking out 45 hitters in his 25.1 innings of work.
The 2021 season marks the ninth year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 940 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to D3baseball.com staff and contributors from which three team in each region were determined.
