Lions Win Offensive Shootout at Emory 11-9

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 11, Emory 9
Records: Piedmont, 15-9 (2-1 USA South); Emory 4-5

ATLANTA, Ga. - Thanks to another blast of offense, the Piedmont baseball team rallied for an 11-9 win at Emory Tuesday. Piedmont trailed 8-5 heading into the eighth inning but scored six in the frame to claim the lead.

Piedmont was down early in the contest after giving up six runs in the second inning. Piedmont's starter KELTON KIESCHNICK was chased after a pair of singles, a walk and two hit by pitches drove in the first two runs in the frame. TYLER ROON entered to limit the damage, but the Eagles managed six runs off four hits to lead 6-0 after two.

Emory also went to the bullpen to start the third inning but the decision backfired as Piedmont scored five runs on four hits to trail by just one. Wild pitches and walks made the difference in the inning to allow the Lions to continue scoring. ZACH NORMAN had the only extra base hit in the third with a double to drive in CARTER BALLSTADT.

Emory tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build an 8-5 lead. The Lions threatened in the sixth inning stranding two runners, but their comeback came in the eighth inning.

Piedmont sent 11 batters to the plate in the eighth inning scoring six runs on just two hits and a pair of errors. The hits were both singles off the bats of JACK BARTLEWSKI and SCOTT LYON.

Piedmont saw quality work from the bullpen as Roon pitched four innings allowing three runs with RYAN COX following Roon and earning the win. Cox pitched two innings allowing just one hit.

CARTER BALLSTADT earned his ninth save of the year pitching the final 1.1 innings allowing just one walk and striking out two of the five batters he faced.
