Irvin Leads Lions to Series Win at Huntingdon with 5-2 Victory Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Behind another impressive outing from PEYTON IRVIN, the Piedmont College baseball team won 5-2 Saturday to earn the series win over Huntingdon. 

Piedmont totaled 12 hits in the contest but could not string together enough for a run until the fifth inning. JAMES WHITMER and SCOTT LYON earned walks followed by a ZACH SWINDELL single to load the bases with one out. 

JACK BARTLEWSKI singled to drive in a pair of runs giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. Piedmont added another run in the sixth with small ball work, but in the seventh it was the long ball that connected for the Lions. 

CARTER BALLSTADT hit his second homerun of the season with a two run shot to put Piedmont up 5-0. The Lions threatened again in the eighth inning with three hits, but left the bases loaded. 

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Irvin surrendered a walk to score the first run of the game for the Hawks. Piedmont then went to the bullpen bringing CARTER BALLSTADT in to close out the contest. Ballstadt made quick work of the two batters he faced with a pair of strikeouts after a wild pitch scored the final run of the game. 

Up next, Piedmont heads to Emory for a contest on the road Tuesday. 

TURNING POINT:
--The Lions' offense was the difference in this one as Irvin shut down the Hawks. Piedmont managed to score its five runs across the 5th-7th innings. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--PEYTON IRVIN nearly went the distance pitching 8.1 earning his sixth win of the season 
--CARTER BALLSTADT entered in relief to close out the ninth facing just two batters and earning a pair of strikeouts. Ballstadt also earned his eighth save of the season. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Irvin allowed just four hits in the contest while striking out five batters.
