DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team has achieved its highest-ever regional ranking, holding down the No. 12 spot in the Atlantic South Region according to the ITA.
The Lady Lions have earned the spot thanks to a dominant 2021 campaign that has seen them produce a 16-5 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the USA South.
Piedmont took home the USA South West Division Regular Season Championship winning five of its seven conference matches in 9-0 fashion. Over those seven matches, the team lost only three total lines.
Nonconference play also helped the Lady Lions earn a spot in the rankings as they picked up two crucial 5-4 road wins at Birmingham-Southern before winning 6-3 at Methodist a few weeks later.
For their strong efforts, the Lady Lions were rewarded on the All-USA South listing as Head Coach Trey Martin took home USA South Coach of the Year honors in his third season while sophomore
IMANI VINCENT won USA South Player of the Year, the first player in program history to accomplish the feat.

MEGAN WALDHEIM, who owns the program records for career singles and combined victories, took home All-USA South First Team and West Division First Team honors. Freshman
ABBEY GRACE VENHAMÂ was 10-3 in singles and 11-2 in doubles to find a spot on the All-USA South West Division First Team while senior standouts
MAGGIE MOODY and
KARA LANDSIEDEL earned All-USA South West Division Second Team honors.
On Friday, the Lady Lions dominated Huntingdon in the USA South Tournament First Round, advancing to take on N.C. Wesleyan in Rocky Mount for the USA South Tournament Championship. The match is currently scheduled for next Sunday, May 2.
