MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In game two of the conference opening series, the Piedmont College baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision. The Hawks saw a complete game from starter Wallace Henry while the Lions utilized a pair of pitchers.
The Lions started
KYLE YORK on the mound Saturday. In his first start, York tossed 2.1 before giving way to
NATHAN BOYCE after York allowed six runs, four earned.
The Hawks were able to tack on three runs in the first off two hits and one error. The bottom of the second saw York settle in, but in the third, the Hawks had four straight hits to start the inning and forced a change as Boyce entered to close out the inning.
Boyce would then close out the game going the rest of the way. Piedmont scored in the third inning as
JACK BARTLEWSKI singled to drive in
KYLE DEJESUS making it 3-1 at that mark.
Huntingdon led 6-1 after the third inning, but Boyce limited the damage with just a single run in each the fourth and fifth before shutting down the Hawks. Piedmont added runs in the fifth and ninth as the late rally saw Bartlewski secure his third RBI of the game driving in
SCOTT LYON.
Up next, the series will continue with the rubber match on Saturday.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

NATHAN BOYCE had another impressive outing out of the bullpen pitching 5.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits.

KYLE DEJESUS had the best offensive day going 3-for-4 from the plate with a walk and a run scored.
--
JACK BARTLEWSKI accounted for all three RBI in the contest for Piedmont.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Huntingdon's starter Wallace Henry went the distance pitching the full nine, allowing three runs, nine hits, and struck out 10.
