DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team used an 8-0 third quarter scoring run to race past Huntingdon, 16-3, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
The win improves the Lions to a perfect 4-0 in conference play and marks their fourth consecutive win on the season after an 0-4 start.
AVERY JENKS continued his superb play, pacing Piedmont with four goals and two assists while senior
CHASE GOFF led the team with three assists giving him a team-best 17 this season.
It was Goff who opened the scoring with his lone goal of the contest, finding the back of the net less than a minute into the festivities. The game remained a 1-0 score in Piedmont's favor for almost 10 minutes as both teams played stifling defense.
The Lions finally broke the scoring drought as
CONNOR ROGERS found
DYLAN HAMPEL to make the score 2-0 before Goff dished out his first assist, finding
BRADY JENKS to make it 3-0 late in the first quarter.
The second quarter was a defensive struggle as the Hawks broke through for just a single goal while
AVERY JENKS delivered a pair of goals to make the margin 5-1 on the side of the Lions heading to the break.
Piedmont then used a third quarter offensive onslaught to put the game away, scoring eight goals and not allowing Huntingdon to crack the scoreboard as the lead grew to 13-1 going to the fourth. Freshman midfielder
MACKLIN FLANIGANÂ capped the Piedmont scoring in the third with a beautiful goal to mark the first of his career.
While the Hawks added a pair of goals to begin the fourth, a trio of Lions (Brady, McGuire,
JOSH FRALEY,
ROBERT DORRIAN) each notched their first goals of the contest to extend the lead late.
Up next, the Lions will look to remain unblemished in the USA South, traveling to LaGrange next Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
