DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont College's women's lacrosse team earned its first win of 2021 on Sunday afternoon in a dominating 19-6 win over Huntingdon in the USA South conference-opener for both teams.
 
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the first goal from Huntingdon and managed the gap from that point on. Five of Piedmont's first nine goals came courtesy of freshman SHELBY MINOR, who joined the team just over a week ago.
 
Minor, a transfer from Lenoir-Rhyne, totaled six goals and led all scorers in that category in just her second game with the program. Most impressively, her six goals came on just seven shot attempts, all of which were on goal. One of the goals from Minor came on a loose ball in front of the net as she swatted a bouncing ball with her stick past Huntingdon goal keeper Elizabeth Todd.
 
Piedmont was up big before allowing a pair of Huntingdon goals near the 10-minute mark of the first half, but extended its lead to 14-2 at the halftime break.
 
Out of the break, the Hawks strung together three straight goals to bring the margin back to 14-5, but managed just one goal beyond that point as the Lions cruised to a 13-point victory to open conference play.

TURNING POINT:
- Minor strung together three straight goals in a three-minute span early in the game to make it 6-0 Piedmont and the Lions never looked back.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- SHELBY MINOR led all scorers with six goals, her first goals as a Lion.
- EMMA FRANSEN led all players with seven points (5 goals, 2 assists).
- LINDLEY WARD led the team with four assists.
- MACEY HIGGINS totaled six points (5 goals, 1 assist).

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont outshot Huntingdon 34-12 on the day and led the draw control battle 15-10.  
- The Lions were also 13-16 on clears while holding Huntingdon to just 10-24.  

UP NEXT:
- Piedmont's next game will be on the road this coming Friday, March 12, at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Game time is slated for 8:00p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT.
