LaGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont baseball team dropped a heartbreaker Friday evening in a walkoff loss at LaGrange 5-4. The Lions rallied in the seventh inning to take the lead, but with it tied in the ninth inning, the Lions could not keep the contest going and force extras.
LaGrange scored the first runs of the game taking a 2-0 lead in the second after four hits in the inning.
SAM CARPENTER earned the start giving up three earned runs, but with a walkoff win for the home team, it was reliever
JUSTIN MANUS who took the loss.
An extra-base hit in the third inning added another run on the board for LaGrange giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead, but the Lions were able to score three in the fifth to tie the contest.
SCOTT LYON had a three-run blast to tie the contest with
JAMES WHITMER and
CONNER JELLEY on base.
Piedmont would take the lead in the seventh but it was short-lived as LaGrange answered that same inning to tie the game again. It was not until the final out in the ninth after back-to-back strikeouts that the Panthers pulled off the victory.
Up next, the Lions will finish the series at LaGrange with a doubleheader slated for Saturday.
TURNING POINT:
--With the game tied at four in the bottom of the ninth, the Panthers managed to score the game-winning run off two hits and one error in the inning.

SCOTT LYON went 2-for-4 with three RBI thanks to a 3-run HR and a run scored in the contest.
