Lions Drop Tuesday Night Home Game to Emory 8-4

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Emory 8, Piedmont 4
Records: Emory, 3-3; Piedmont, 10-7

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont baseball team saw its late comeback attempt fall short in an 8-4 Tuesday night loss to Emory at Loudermilk Field.

The Eagles jumped out front early before breaking the game open in the middle innings and holding on late as the Lions' bats came to life too late in the loss.

After Piedmont starter KELTON KIESCHNICK rolled through the first two innings, Emory broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the third off two base hits.

The Lions were able to answer with a run in the bottom of the fourth off a ZACH NORMAN sacrifice fly, but the rally was ended after it was deemed that the trail runner left second base too early.

From there, the Eagles were able to extend their lead with another run in the sixth before Robby Wacker cleared the bases with a triple to put the PC deficit at 8-1 going to the seventh inning stretch.

However, the Lions did not go quietly in the late innings, scoring twice in the eighth to make it an 8-3 game headed to the ninth. In their final at bat, the Lions were able to load the bases with one out, but were able to scratch across only a single run as Emory shut the door on the rally.

Piedmont's JACK BARTLEWSKI continued his torrid pace, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Norman drove in a pair of runs on two sacrifice flies.

Up next, the Lions will head to LaGrange for a nonconference series beginning Friday, March 26 at 7 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Emory broke open the contest on Wacker's three-run triple in the top of the seventh.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- JACK BARTLEWSKI is now 10-for-16 over his last two games, adding three hits Tuesday including a triple.
