Women's Lacrosse Falls in Home Matchup v. Oglethorpe

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling, 18-7, to in-state foe Oglethorpe on Tuesday night at the Walker Athletic Complex.

The Stormy Petrels (2-1) led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the early minutes and never looking back on their way to the comfortable win.

The Lady Lions (0-4) received a standout performance from senior attacker EMMA FRANSEN, who led the team with three assists while adding two goals. She was joined in the two-goal club on the evening by junior AISLYNN KIMBRO and sophomore LINDLEY WARD.

Oglethorpe held a 40-21 shot advantage and a 31-17 edge in shots on goal. Piedmont freshman goalie KELLIANNE SCHLOSSER made 13 saves.

After the Stormy Petrels scored the first four goals of the contest, Piedmont got on the board as Fransen found Kimbro with 23:47 left in the first half. Oglethorpe answered with a goal less than two minutes later before Fransen cut the PC deficit back to three with her first of the evening.

However, from there, the Stormy Petrels used a furious 8-0 run to close the half and take a 13-2 lead to the break.

Piedmont's offense ignited in the second, scoring five goals, but the deficit was too much to overcome in the 18-7 loss.

Up next, the Lady Lions will open their conference slate, hosting Huntingdon this Sunday, March 7.

TURNING POINT:
- After Piedmont had cut Oglethorpe's lead to 5-2 with 20 minutes left in the first half, the Stormy Petrels went on an 8-0 run to end the first half and take control of the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Reigning USA South Player of the Week EMMA FRANSEN delivered a two-goal, three-assist performance in the loss.
