BREVARD, N.C. - The Piedmont men's tennis team took home its second consecutive 9-0 shutout to begin conference play, rolling past Brevard for a Friday road win.
The Lions dominated all three doubles lines and took each of the six singles matches in straight sets, with three coming in 6-0, 6-0 fashion.
Playing together for the first time in doubles, the No. 3 team of
CHRIS BALE and
PATRICK DEMPSEY began the festivities with an 8-0 win before
HOUSTON MEDLOCK and
CHASE MORRIS rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 2 followed quickly by an 8-2 win at No. 1 from
SILAS SANDLES and
ROMAN WEBB.
Heading into singles with a 3-0 lead, Piedmont quickly clinched the match at 5-0 thanks to 6-0, 6-0 wins from Dempsey at No. 6 and Bale at No. 3. Dempsey's win at No. 6 singles improves the sophomore to 7-2 at that spot this season.
Freshman
BRYCE VANORDER then rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 while Sandles did not drop a game, crusing to a win at No. 5 singles.
The upperclassmen Medlock and Morris then finished off the clean sweep, racing to two-set victories at No. 1 and No. 4 singles to end the evening.
The two teams will battle again tomorrow at 10 a.m. in nonconference action.
