Bartlewski's Three-Run Shot Lifts Lions to 4-2 Win Over Huntingdon

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 4, Huntingdon 2
Records: Piedmont, 10-4; Huntingdon 6-7

DEMOREST, Ga. – In game one of the weekend series, Piedmont claimed a 4-2 win over Huntingdon Friday evening at Loudermilk Field in large part thanks to a 3-run bomb from JACK BARTLEWSKI in the fifth inning. SAM CARPENTER had another stellar outing moving his record to 5-1 with another start without allowing an earned run.

The Hawks were the first to add a hit with a double in the first inning but it was all they could muster. Piedmont did not record its first hit until the second inning but added a run in the first.

The Lions claimed a 1-0 lead after TYLER SHELEY was walked in the lead-off spot and driven around to third after JACK BARTLEWSKI reached. Sheley was driven in on a JAMES WHITMER RBI-groundout to take the lead.

Impressive defensive plays were aplenty Friday as SAM CARPENTER proved pitchers are athletes too with a pair of impressive barehanded plays for the out at first.

It was a pitcher's duel until the fifth inning when the Piedmont offense exploded. Sheley was walked once again and KYLE DEJESUS reached after being hit. JACK BARTLEWSKI left no doubt on a shot out to right field with a 3-run home run to give Piedmont a 4-0 lead.

An error in the top of the sixth helped the Hawks to their first run as a double drove in the unearned run, but Wes Powell was waved around to third and tagged out on the play for the final out of the inning.

JUSTIN MANUS entered in the eighth inning and after a lead-off hit, the defense helped him with a 4-3 double play to put two outs on the board. Piedmont closed out the contest in the ninth with CARTER BALLSTADT on the mound and after the Hawks threatened with one run, he shut down the attack. Ballstadt helped the Lions to a double play on a bunt attempt with a 1-3-5 double play in the ninth.

TURNING POINT:
--JACK BARTLEWSKI went yard in the fifth inning with a 3-run home run to add some insurance runs for the Lions making it a 4-0 game.
