LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Piedmont men's lacrosse team fell, 12-11, at Transylvania on Sunday afternoon in Lexington.

Still in search of their first win of the season, the Lions led, 11-9, late in the third quarter before the Pioneers closed the contest on a 3-0 run to pull off the comeback.

On the offensive end, the Jenks brothers were dynamic for Piedmont, with each delivering three goals while Avery also added an assist for a four-point afternoon. Junior transfer PHILLIP WATTERS was the only other Lion with multiple goals, adding two.

On the defensive end, goalie ZACH CZULADA delivered a valiant effort, making 17 saves while Transylvania held a 49-20 shot advantage.

The Pioneers held the edge throughout the opening quarter as they scored first and built a 5-2 lead through the first 15 minutes.

However, after Transylvania opened the second quarter scoring to lead 6-2, PC responded with a furious 4-0 run to knot things up at 6-all with 3:36 remaining in the first half. The teams traded goals back-and-forth until the Pioneers broke the tie, scoring with 11 seconds left in the half to bring an 8-7 edge to halftime.

The defensive intensity picked up in the second half as goals became harder to come by. The Lions took back momentum early in the third quarter, using a 4-0 scoring run to build a two-goal advantage.

Watters tied the contest at 8-all on his second of the day before AVERY JENKS put PC on top for the first time at 9-8.

After the Pioneers cut their deficit to 11-10 late in the third, the Lions saw their offense stymied in the final quarter as Transylvania's Will Warner netted the game winner with 4:29 left to play.

Up next, Piedmont will return home and open USA South play, welcoming Brevard to Demorest this Saturday, March 20 at 12 p.m.
