MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Piedmont men's tennis freshman SILAS SANDLES was victorious at No. 5 singles for the third consecutive match as the Lions fell 7-2 at Berry on Thursday afternoon.

The Lions (0-5) battled the Vikings (2-0) in a pair of close doubles matches and were able to take two singles lines in the loss.

For Sandles, the win marks his third straight at No. 5 singles after winning twice at BSC over the weekend. The Texas native is a perfect 3-0 against Division III opponents.

Singles action was also highlighted by a convincing 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles by senior CHASE MORRIS.

After Berry took the opening point of the match, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles the Lions battled at No. 2 and No. 3. Unfortunately, the Vikings prevailed, 8-4, at No. 2 before delivering the clean sweep by narrowly escaping No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 win.

After a quick decision for Berry at No. 1 singles, it closed out the match with Connor Murphy's 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.

However, even with the outcome decided, Piedmont battled picking up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 in quick succession.

In the last match on the court, freshman BRYCE VANORDER fell in a grueling match at No. 2 singles, losing 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (3).
