Fransen Reaches 100 Career Goals but Lady Lions Fall 14-10 to Berry

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Berry 14, Piedmont 10
Records: Berry, 1-0; Piedmont, 0-2

DEMOREST, Ga. - Senior EMMA FRANSEN delivered a game-high six goals and surpassed 100 for her career but the Piedmont women's lacrosse team was unable to overtake Berry, falling 14-10 at the Walker Athletic Complex Tuesday night.

The Lady Lions (0-2) fought the Vikings (1-0) in a back-and-forth contest all evening, but Berry used a 7-1 run over the final 16:29 of the contest to pull away for the win.

After being held scoreless in PC's season opener on Feb. 13, Fransen bounced back in a big way Tuesday, scoring six of the team's 10 goals while adding two assists. She now has 104 for her career and becomes just the seventh player in program history to accomplish the feat.

One game after setting the single-game program record for saves, freshman goalie KELLIANNE SCHLOSSER stopped 15 shots against the Vikings.

Junior AISLYNN KIMBRO delivered her second consecutive hat trick, scoring three while picking up three ground balls.

The contest was extremely evenly matched as neither side was able to separate by more than two goals in the first half. While Berry was able to build a 5-3 lead late in the half, Piedmont rallied back, as a pair of goals from Fransen in the final 3:43 knotted the score at 5-all heading into half.

With 20 minutes remaining in the contest, a goal by MACEY HIGGINS put the Lady Lions in the lead for the first time at 7-6. Then, with 16:29 left, Piedmont pushed its lead to 9-7 on Fransen's fifth of the night.

However, the Vikings responded with a furious rally over the final 15 minutes of the game, scoring seven goals as the Lady Lions were unable to stop the run.

Up next, Piedmont will play its first road contest of the season, taking on Centre in Danville, Kentucky this Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m.
