BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Piedmont men's tennis team battled until the end but fell, 7-2, at Birmingham-Southern on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions dropped all three doubles lines as the Panthers took the first seven lines of the match before PC rallied late with a pair of wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
CHRIS BALE and
SILAS SANDLES fought but suffered an 8-6 defeat at No. 1 doubles, the team's best chance to take a doubles line.
With a 3-0 lead heading into singles action, the Panthers needed just two wins to clinch the match.
BSC quickly delivered the clincher as Elijah Ingleson won, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.
However, the Lions continued to battle, as Sandles picked up his first career singles win, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, while sophomore
PATRICK DEMPSEY delivered his second win of the season, winning a first-set tiebreaker before taking the second, 7-5, to put the Lions on the board.
Up next, PC will take on BSC once again tomorrow at 11 a.m. (ET).

- BSC was able to take all three doubles lines to create an insurmountable lead over the Lions.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Both Sandles and Dempsey fought to win grueling matches, putting Piedmont on the board at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
